Black moas ftw?
I find it helpful in pvp when I run BHA. If its just me and my moa with me the extra attacks help to interrupt.

Are you in Pre-searing, cause if you are you can get a lvl 20 strider easy. Just go outside of the estate. Lure a strider to the Res shrine and let it kill you for 8 hours or so.
Get war as your "temp" secondary prof so that you have Frenzy. If you are a war then you already have frenzy. Take your armor off and spam frenzy to die faster.
just do not target and kill the strider.
Nothing easier than that.

Well what pet did you capture? The easiest way to make a pet dire is before you cap it. Go clear out enemies around it, flag all of your hench/heroes away except a monk and disable all healing and only give him resurrect. Take off all your armor and if you have a vamp weapon use it. Let the pet kill you for an hour and it'll be close to level 20 and will evolve into a dire pet.
Make sure hero monk is passive also or else it will attack the pet.

If you don't feel like racking some up several hundred death counts on your character, there's a different way you can do it.
Once you cap a pet, don't fight anything and take it straight to the 'Isle of the Nameless' next to the Great Temple of Balthazar. Equipt 'Strength of Honor,' cast it on your pet, bring a hero to cast 'Winnowing,' and have your pet take some smack at the dummies. If you get lazy, you can bring a hero monk with heal area and place him/her next to the dummy while you stand there with a vampiric weapon. The hero will automatically cast heal area on recharge, which will be enough to keep the pet smacking on the dummy forever. Keep this up for around 30 mins.
Afterwards, go to the Desolations in Nightfall. If you kill things in your Junundu, the pet will still receive experience points although it dies the moment you enter Junundu. This way, you can safely get it to level 20 in dire status, although death-leveling it would be undoubtedly faster. I'd suggest going to the Remains of Sahlahja and joining HM lb/ss groups.

Also in all actuality if your running B/P you do the dmg the pet is the tank. With that said this would be better;
Hearty: -(~12-14)% damage, +60 health
vs.
Dire: +(~12-14)% damage, -60 health

Death leveling it with 2-3 Hero res'ers works just fine for Dire. Took about 35mins to get my polar bear done just outside of Boreal station.
I tried Dire and am currently using a Hearty to see which i prefer , although I may just split the difference and go Elder

For Elder, the easiest way is to level your pet like a Dire until it's aggresive, then just let it die alot and level up without doing any real damage.
